To provide laboratory professionals with technical and clinical insights into cholesterol fractions, their measurement methods, and their relevance in cardiovascular risk stratification.
Key Objectives
- Review total cholesterol (TC), LDL-C, HDL-C, non-HDL-C, TRL-C.
- Understand cholesterol physiology and gender-specific considerations (cholesterol in females).
- Discuss clinical significance of LDL-C and other fractions.
- Outline indications for lipid testing.
- Compare methods of determination: Total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol (homogeneous/direct method, Friedewald formula, Sampson equation)
- Evaluate non-HDL cholesterol and LDL-C/HDL-C ratio.
- Identify specimens and reference intervals.
- Interpret clinical significance of TC, LDL-C, non-HDL-C, HDL-C, and TRL-C.
